Screw iron, Latin name: Dracaena deremensis' compacta Alias: spiral iron, willow iron, Philippine iron tree, rolling leaf iron, twisted iron. It is one of the cultivated varieties of Dracaena demensis of the genus Dracaena of Liliaceae. It is a tropical evergreen shrub that can absorb indoor formaldehyde and other harmful volatiles.

 

Screw iron is a tropical shrub, about 8-12 feet tall. Green leaves are sometimes grayish green. NASA says threaded irons can absorb formaldehyde, xylene and toluene. A NASA study shows that placing three threaded irons in a 130 square foot room can remove 70% of the harmful substances in the room. Threaded iron has low requirements for light, and is most suitable for growth in semi shade environment
